About Leadership for Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability is a complex concept, and the challenge of understanding it and applying it to a diverse, multi-agent, organisational setting with its potentially conflicting priorities cannot be underestimated.
In this paper, we draw on sustainable and distributed leadership ideas, termed by Wheatley (2010) as the "new sciences," informed by tenets from complexity theory. Using a case study approach and narrative insights, this paper elucidates how an ongoing Professional Learning Network (PLN) called Link-to-Practice (L2P) offers an alternative conception of educational leadership. Sustainability education and leadership involves shifting to holistic, systemic, ecological, relational and spiritual ways of teaching and leading. We believe that sustainability education should be embodied in all of our classes and activities. Sustainability is a complex concept, and the challenge of understanding it and applying it to a diverse, multi-agent, organisational setting with its potentially conflicting priorities cannot be underestimated.
